White Whale by Masque Milano is a dark, moody take on ocean spray that I find fascinating to let unravel. And recently I tried and loved A’mmare by Carthusia (salt crystallizing on your skin after a dip in the ocean plus patchouli).
Masque Milano has some good things, right?! I do own a bottle of A'mmare and I enjoy it as a sweet, citrusy take on the saltwater and driftwood theme. I need to rotate it back out of my drawer!
I’m partial to beach incenses (maybe not a real category). Aedes Copal Azul and House of Matriarch Albatross give me that salty marine and light resinous frankincense feel. Just lovely.
If “beach incense” isn’t a sub-category, it needs to be one. I think the Aedes house line has some really under-sung heroes. I need to dig out my sample of Copal Azur!
Trying the perfumes in your article and your commenters suggestions would keep me busy for a year, and what a year it would be. Profumum Roma’s Acqua di Sale feels like I’m sitting on a breezy beach on Cape Cod at sunset with a cozy blanket draped over my shoulders. The notes listed are cedarwood, myrtle (no idea what myrtle smells like) and seaweed. It’s strangely social and meditative at the same time.
Parfum d'empire' Acqua di Scandola comes to mind: a Corsican beach under immortelle-dotted cliffs, and a vivid seaweed extract. Marine without Calone! Perfect companion piece to the tropical tiaré scent of Un bel amour d'été, also by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato.
"Marine without Calone" --- exactly! Parfum d'empire is not as easy to find as it used to be, at least in NYC, but I need to scout this one out. Thank you!
Sel Marin is a favourite, along with the deeper darker monster-infested seas of Silence the Sea. I'm really enjoying the samples I bought from Beaufort, too -- the recent ones by Euan McColl, which are north Atlantic coasts rather than palm-shaded tropical beaches.

Agreed. Oops. You caught my mistake Azul vs Azur. I might need to resampled this one too.

We have a pirate’s treasure chest of ocean-inspired options here! I used to like a few things from Profumum…I need to revisit that brand.

I still need to investigate Beaufort. Thanks for this reminder!!
